JOB OPENING

Information and Referral Specialist

Part-time positions available to provide social service information and referrals by telephone in a 24-hour agency. Will also monitor Lifeline emergency alarm system. Must work 15-25 hours per week, weekdays 9am-2 pm and some Saturday hours. BA in human services or related field preferred.  Excellent communication skills, computer skills and experience with seniors a plus.  Must have reliable transportation and be willing to work some holidays. JOB DESCRIPTION

FUNCTION:   Provides information and referral to Summit County residents by linking clients with the assistance they need.

 

PROGRAM:   Information & Referral

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Answers the Information & Referral telephone lines, assesses the caller's needs and provides Information & Referral service through the use of agency's resource system.

  2. Follows up with clients to see that their needed services were received.

  3. Maintains accurate records of all calls and services provided as required.

  4. Screens clients for other Info Line programs.

  5. Attends and participates in staff meetings as scheduled by Program Supervisor.

  6. Monitors Lifeline Central Receiving Station; contacts client or emergency responders in the event of an emergency.

  7. Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree or previous human services experience required; prior experience in Information & Referral agency helpful; demonstrated listening and communication skills necessary.  Must be available for any shift.

Authority & Relationships:

Reports to the Program Supervisor; works in conjunction with other program staff.

  • Ability to understand and communicate the consequences of various courses of action.

  • Ability to make reasonable judgments based on the information available.

  •  Ability to stay awake

  • Ability to work all shifts, all days

  • Ability to talk, see, write, read, hear  and operate a computer

  • Ability to use a telephone

  • Ability to interview

  • Ability to operate office machines

  • Ability to lift 15 pounds (reference guides, phone books, computer books, etc…)
