Project Connect presents ... Classes On Demand

Starting in August, we will be changing the format of our training schedule. We will now offer classes "on demand": just call or e-mail to have your name added to the list, and as soon as we have enough folks registered, we'll schedule the class. This way, we can run whatever classes you need, when you need them!

Don't forget - we also offer custom sessions. Just get a minimum of 8 people together, and we'll do a special session just for you.  You don't all need to be from the same organization, so tell your friends!

Reserve your seat now - call 330-315-1335 or e-mail .

Amy's PC TIP:
Microsoft Virtual Machine and Java

Microsoft Virtual Machine (VM) is a component that works with Internet Explorer to help you experience dynamic content on the Internet.  Microsoft is no longer providing VM as an integrated part of Internet Explorer, but instead has entered into an agreement with Sun Microsystems to provide a smooth transition to users.

In a nutshell, Microsoft is no longer bundling VM with Internet Explorer, but if you installed or upgraded your version prior to the agreement, Microsoft will continue to support it until 2007.  If you installed or upgraded after this agreement, you may have already noticed its absence and not realized what's missing.  This component is also sometimes referred to as the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), so you may have seen an error message to that effect.

Why should you care? VM is used for dynamic content such as games and videos, but also for secure interactive sites like online banking, benefits management, etc.  Regardless of whether you have Microsoft VM currently or not, you should still install Java VM directly, to avoid complications when the Microsoft installation reaches end of life on December 31, 2007.  Detailed information on the life cycle and dependent applications can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/.

For most of us, all we really need to worry about is installing the Sun version.  It's a free download, available from http://www.java.com/en/.  Follow the links to test your computer for the current installation, or install the current version manually or automatically.  It just takes a couple of minutes, and you're done!  After that, you will periodically see a coffee cup near your clock (in the lower right corner of your screen), which will remind you that there are updates available to your software.  Just click to allow it to update, and you'll be sure to have the latest in Java technology.
