WhiteSpace Design Group Offers Free CreateAThon™

On September 19 and 20, 2002, the creative staff of WhiteSpace Design Group, Inc. will be donating their time by providing creative work free of charge to non-profit organizations that continuously work to improve our community. The event is called CreateAThon™, and WhiteSpace is proud to be the exclusive CreateAThon™ agency for the Akron/Canton area.

The work for CreateAThon™ is done during a 24-hour marathon beginning at 8:00 am September 19. WhiteSpace has committed at least five staff members to the event resulting in a minimum of 120 hours of pro-bono creative work. Services to be provided include conceptual development, copywriting, and design work for print and website communications.

All Akron/Canton area non-profit organizations are invited to complete an application and return it by August 16, 2002. The applications will be reviewed and selections will be made based on need and how well WhiteSpace can meet those needs.

If you have questions, please contact Jeana Allison at or 330-762-9320. For more details about the event as well as the application form, visit www.whitespace-design.com

Resource: National Cristina Foundation

NCF encourages corporations and individuals to donate surplus and used computers, software, peripherals and related business technology. NCF directs those donations to training and educational organizations. All the organizations are pre-screened and qualified grassroots partners of NCF.

All donated equipment is distributed to these organizations FREE. Priority is given to organizations responsible for fostering the training of people with special needs in educational or training environments.

Grants of equipment to NCF Network partner organizations are based on availability. They cannot assist individuals directly.

To receive NCF equipment, your application must be accepted. For more information, visit http://www.cristina.org/learning_partner.html?live=partner

Verizon Funds Training

Did you know ...

When you install Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, they come with two horrible defaults:

Standard and Formatting toolbars share one row

Menus show recently used commands first

With the first default, you see only half the buttons of the Standard toolbar and half the buttons of the Formatting toolbar. In order to see other buttons, you have to click on a double-arrow. What a waste of time!

The second one is scarier! On this one, you see only the commands you have used most recently. If you haven't done a sort, sort won't be listed under the Table menu. So you, like 90% of computer users, will assume that sort doesn't exist ... or spend lots of time working with Clippy trying to figure it out.  So ...

PC TIP #1: Go to View ... Toolbars ... Customize and click on the /Options\ tab. Turn off both options under Personalized Menus and Toolbars. Do this for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, etc.

PC TIP #2: For Windows 2000 users who want to see all of their available programs, go to Start ... Settings ... Taskbar and Startup Menu and turn off Use personalized menus
