CNE Offers "Selling Your News Story"

Have you ever sent a press release to the news media and received no response? This workshop is designed to help organizations develop media strategies for capturing the media’s attention and getting a story broadcast or in print. Learn techniques for:

writing an effective press release and creating press packets;
pitching story ideas;
establishing media contacts;
knowing when to call and how to conduct a press conference.

Participants should bring copies of at least one or two press releases they have used in the past.

"Selling Your News Story" will be conducted by Valeri Furst, Furst Communications. It will be held at United Disability Services, and the fee is $55.

Please join CNE on Thursday, July 25, 2002 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Seating is limited, so register early!

For more information, call 330-762-9670 or visit http://www.cfnpe.org/programs.htm and click on "Selling Your News Story" under "Upcoming Events."

Summit County Red Cross Chapter is 4th in Nation

The Summit County American Red Cross has been ranked fourth out of the 1,052 Red Cross chapters nationwide for their efforts in Workplace Safety. More specifically, bringing the Red Cross"injury-control modules" safety training to local businesses and organizations.

"Injury-control modules are a great way to keep employees motivated about safety issues, while helping the company further reduce the chances of illnesses and injuries in the workplace," said Karen Vincent, Workplace Health & Safety Specialist for the Summit County Chapter.

In Summit County, Karen has been able to successfully market the "injury-control modules" to local businesses, making our community a safer place to work. For example, a local carpentry school decided to make "Back Injury Prevention and Slips, Trips and Falls" a part of its eight-hour safety training. Likewise, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center decided to make "Stress Management and Violence Prevention" part of its safety training for both staff and patients. Other available injury-control modules are Ergonomics, Managing Stress, Workplace Violence Awareness, and Your Heart Matters. Please call Karen Vincent at 330-535-6131, ext. 235 for more information.
