National Secret Service Alert: Nigerian Scam Targeting Local Nonprofits
Our thanks to Paula Masuga-Adams of Mobile Meals for this alert ...
You get an e-mail saying that someone wants to donate $25 million to your nonprofit organization ... you helped a family member of someone who wants to thank you. All you have to do is fill out a form to receive the money. A form with your bank account number. Don't do it!
This is an international scam to clean out nonprofit bank accounts. Although the messages are currently coming from Nigeria, they can come from any country, any city, in the world. Never give out your bank account number. If there's an offer of a donation that seems not quite right, please contact your legal advisors.
