CTF Awards $777,000 to 37 Ohio Organizations The Ohio Community Technology Fund (CTF), through funding by SBC Ameritech, delivered $777,453 in grant funding to 37 organizations statewide to help provide technology and training to underserved communities. Locally, the six organizations in Akron and Ravenna sharing $120,919 in CTF grants demonstrated a commitment to providing low-income or rural communities with access to advanced telecommunications technologies and opportunities to develop essential skills to keep pace with today's rapidly changing technology environment. Grant recipients in the Akron and Ravenna area include:
"The organizations receiving these awards provide an important community service, bringing technology and education to disadvantaged communities in Ohio," said SBC Ameritech Ohio President James C. Smith. "We commend the program's grant recipients for their leadership, vision and innovation in achieving this goal." The CTF has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants since its founding in 1999 as part of the SBC Ameritech merger agreement with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. The remaining grant funds will be awarded later this year by the CTF board, a five-member body comprised of representatives from SBC, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, Edgemont Neighborhood Coalition, Ohio Consumers' Counsel, and Parkview Areawide Seniors Inc. CTF grants are funded by SBC and are open to non-profit corporations and associations and publicly funded entities, such as schools and libraries, in SBC Ameritech Ohio's service territory. Coalitions and consortiums of such organizations are also eligible. Volunteer Service Awards for AARP Members Do you know a volunteer who is making a significant difference in your community or in the lives of others? Rolling Acres Offers Fundraising & Community Awareness Opportunities Rolling Acres Mall is reaching out to the surrounding community with "Community Days." During one weekend in June, nonprofit organizations are invited to set up inside the common area of the mall and raise funds for their organization or cause. The Rolling Acres Mall Community Days event will take place during regular mall hours from Friday, June 21 through Sunday, June 23, 2002. These three days will provide all nonprofit organizations with the opportunity to have a captive audience in which to fundraise for or simply raise awareness of their organization. The cost is only $50 for the three-day event, which includes a prime mall location, one skirted table and two chairs for your use. A Royal 2260 Copy Star is for sale at Families First of Stark County, Inc. It includes a bin sorter, a 2 and 3 hole capacity punch and a stacker. It copies 60 pages per minute, has 5 trays of paper supply, duplexes, enlarges and reduces, does cover pages and transparencies. It is very easy to operate. The Verizon Foundationthe philanthropic arm of Verizon Communicationsis helping northeast Ohio nonprofits improve their use of computer technology by paying for their Project Connect training. Each eligible organization can apply for training for 3 staff members per organization; 3 classes per application; 3 applications per year.
