Deadline Nears:
OANO Conference Registration May 15-16 - Columbus OH http://www.oano.org/Programs.asp?page=CONF
Rarely do nonprofit executives have an opportunity to meet with their peers to learn from each other and from experts in nonprofit management. OANO's annual conference is a must-attend for anyone responsible for a nonprofit's accountability, fundraising, strategic planning, advocacy, communications, etc. It's a valuable conference in many ways, especially because it is very low-cost to attend (registration fees are low and you spend only one night in Columbus).
Keynote addresses include:
- David Allen ... The Top Job: Make It Up and Make It Happen
- Lee Fisher, President and CEO of Cleveland's Center for Families and Children
- Carol Weisman ... Celebrating Our Victories
Pre-conference sessions allow attendees to explore complex topics in-depth:
- Getting Traction: Keys to Relaxed Productivity (David Allen)
- Assessing Your Resource Development Program
- Capitol Lab (at the Ohio Statehouse)
- Turbo-Teching Your Mission: Evaluating and Revitalizing with Technology
Concurrent sessions offer invaluable tips on a wide variety of topics:
- Relationships with Legislators: Using Expertise to Influence Public Policy
- One Step Ahead—Developing Investment and Fiscal Management Policies
- Where the Money Is: Cultivating Individual Donors
- Designing Your Board Culture
- Advocacy Coalitions: The Power of Association
- Influencing the Most Powerful Pens in the Press
- Maximizing Self-Sufficiency: Generating Service Income
- Maalox® Moments in Strategic Planning
- Avenues of Affiliation: Government and Nonprofits
- Frank Talk with Funders
- Balancing Price, Quality, and Service
- Financial Analysis for the Non-Financial Manager
- Public Policy Initiatives: Successful Processes and Outcome Measures
- Minding Your Business: Nonprofit Business Planning
- Financial Management for Small Nonprofits
- Integrating Technology into Strategic Planning
The highlight of the conference will be when Terri-Lynne B. Smiles, chair of the Standards for Excellence advisory committee of the OANO board of directors, will announce the first group of Ohio organizations to earn the Seal of Excellence! If you're not part of this program, you definitely need to learn more!
The registration deadline for this truly terrific conference is nearing! Visit www.ohiononprofits.org to learn more about how this conference can help you do your job!
Special bonus for Project Connect members: 25% off the registration fees!!

What Do You Want To Do?
We are in the process of examining our courses and identifying how they can be changed to best meet your needs. For example, some of you have stated that a class only about managing mail lists would be helpful. Others have suggested a class about creating forms and e-mailing them to donors or putting them on the internet.
If you have any suggestions for class topics, please send them to . Thanks!!

Verizon Foundation Awards Project Connect $2,500
The Verizon Foundation has awarded Project Connect $2,500 to support its training program. This is in addition to the free classes it provides to area nonprofits through its tuition program (see below). The Verizon Foundation is one of the few national funders to eagerly embrace technology capacity funding, and we are proud to be a member of its network.

Did you know ...
One of the dangers of Outlook is that it is so easy to send that e-mail message! E-mail regret can occur seconds, even hours, after you hit that button. Sometimes, however, all is not lost. Sometimes, you can recall that stupid message before the person reads it ...
PC TIP #11 Microsoft Outlook
-
Open the e-mail you sent from your Sent Items folder.
-
Select Actions/Recall this message ... I like the option of deleting all unread copies of the message. Be sure to check "Tell me if recall succeeds or fails for each recipient"!
-
After you click [OK], you can open the message again to read on the yellow status bar that you attempted to recall the message. But don't let it rest there!
- Wait until you get a message in your inbox that says whether the recall succeeded or failed. You won't get it until that person starts their own e-mail program, so it might be a while.
- If it succeeds, you're saved! That person will not read that e-mail!
- If it fails, then that person has already read the e-mail. Time to start writing that follow-up message ...
