It's Time for Our Progress Report!
Project Connect's mission is to empower northeast Ohio nonprofits to serve more people through technology and connectivity. On a periodic basis, we check with you--the nonprofits we serve--to report to our funders, evaluate our progress, and direct our efforts for the coming year. The more feedback we receive, the stronger our Project becomes.
We would greatly appreciate it if you took 5 minutes to complete the 8 questions on the survey and return it to us. And comments are ALWAYS welcome!!! For the survey, visit https://infolineinc.org/connect/2002survey.doc or call us at 330-315-1335 and we'll fax you a copy.
Thank you for your support!!

David Allen, author of Getting Things Done, is Keynote Speaker at OANO Conference May 15-16, 2003 - Columbus
Project Connect members receive a 25% discount on the conference fees.
Join us for an unparalleled opportunity to network with your colleagues from across the state, gain pertinent insight and information about Ohio's nonprofit sector, and celebrate the first class of successful Standards for Excellence certified organizations! OANO's ninth annual state-wide conference, Leading the Way to Excellence and Innovation, will be held in Columbus on May 15-16, 2003.
Dubbed "the personal productivity guru" by Fast Company magazine, Allen's premise is simple: our ability to be productive is directly proportional to our ability to relax. Only when our minds are clear and our thoughts are organized can we achieve stress-free productivity. His seamless system teaches us how to identify, track, and--most importantly--choose the next action on all our tasks, commitments, and projects and thus master all the demands on our time while unleashing our creative potential.
The David Allen Company (www.davidco.com) has designed and implemented programs to address personal and corporate knowledge-work productivity issues--helping people get more done with less effort, improving performance and the quality of the work experience.
Breakout sessions for this year's annual conference include
- Becoming a legislator's expert of choice
- Board accountability and development
- Fiscal management for small nonprofits
- The sticky issues in strategic planning
- Cultivating small donors--the long-term benefits of individual giving campaigns
- Benchmarks for revenue generation
- The most powerful pens in the press
- Frank talk from funders
- ...and many, many more, including breakfast roundtable discussions
OANO is a Ohio's statewide membership association of more than 530 organizations that provides leadership, education and advocacy to enhance the ability of Ohio’s nonprofit organizations to serve their communities. For more information, contact Leah D. Hackleman, director of programs, at 614-280-0233, e-mail , or visit www.ohiononprofits.org.

FREE Seminar: Technology Strategies for Nonprofit Leaders February 21, 2003 - 9:00 - 4:00
February 24, 2003 - 9:00 - 12:00 Sponsored by SBC
Project Connect has partnered with NPower to bring free technology management seminars to northeast Ohio. On February 21st and 24th (a Monday and Friday), experts from NPower will present "Technology Strategies for Nonprofit Leaders."
"Technology Strategies" is a one-and-a-half day management-level training designed to meet the unique technology needs of nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit managers will learn how to take a proactive stance when it comes to their organization’s technology. This workshop will help you demystify technology by learning how to evaluate and assess what your organization needs to use technology to meet your mission. The workshop content is not technical, and you do not have to have any specific technical skills or knowledge to attend.
The NPower National Network is made up of independent, community-based organizations dedicated to helping nonprofits better serve their communities through technology. Through a generous grant from the SBC Excelerator program, the NPower Network and its partners will be offering hands-on technology services and training to nonprofits in SBC's 13 operating states. This project will help small and medium sized nonprofits use technology to work smarter, reach higher, and provide more of their great services!
Seating is limited, so register early by e-mailing or calling 330-315-1335.
CFNPE & Peter C. Brinckerhoff present ...
Mission-based Management in Times of Financial Difficulty January 29, 2003 - Hilton Akron/Fairlawn
CEOs, Executive Directors, Board Presidents, Board members, Funders, and anyone concerned about managing nonprofit organizations during these times of financial difficulty cannot afford to miss this seminar presented by Peter C. Brinckerhoff, Corporate Alternatives, Inc. Mr. Brinkerhoff will discuss his three core philosophies:
- Your organization is a mission-based "business."
- No one "gives" your organization a dime.
- Nonprofit does not mean "no" profit.
He will also explain how a nonprofit can remain mission-based and financially viable. He will identify the early signs of an organization in trouble and how those problems can be corrected or prevented.
After lunch, CEOs and Executive Directors are invited to remain for an afternoon session to consider the nuts and bolts of dealing with financial cutbacks and developing plans for long-term financial sustainability.
For more information, contact the Center for Nonprofit Excellence at 330-762-9670 or visit their website at www.cfnpe.org/programs.htm.
Did you know ...
Remember the days of overhead transparency sheets where you could write with a pen as you give a presentation? You can actually get the same writing effect right in your PowerPoint presentation. So ...
PC TIP #8
PowerPoint 1 & 2
-
While running your PowerPoint presentation, move your mouse around until the pointer appears.
-
Click on the menu button that appears in the lower left hand corner when you move your mouse.
-
When the menu opens, click on Pointer Options, then click on Pen.
-
Now when you click and drag with your mouse it will draw like a pen on your presentation.
-
When you want the pen marks to disappear, just press the letter E (for erase) on your keyboard.
-
You can also choose a pen color from the same menu under Pointer Options/Pen Color.
-
This pen feature can be turned off the same way you turned it on.
