CNE Presents "Social Entrepreneurship: The Promise and the Perils"
January 27, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
American Red Cross, 501 West Market, Akron

This special seminar features Jerr Boschee, the founder and Executive Director of the Institute for Social Entrepreneurs and the founder of the Executive Academy for Social Entrepreneurs. Mr. Boschee and several local presenters will provide an introduction to the basic principles and critical factors associated with entrepreneurial strategies for nonprofits. Senior staff and board members will benefit from attending this session.

The pressures confronting nonprofits these days are daunting: costs continue to climb, traditional sources of financial support have become increasingly unstable, the number of nonprofits competing for funds has risen dramatically, the number of people in need is also increasing, and the call for accountability from donors and others are more demanding than ever before. In the past few years nonprofits have been responding to such challenges by adopting entrepreneurial strategies that emphasis the "double bottom line": helping the organization expand its impact and simultaneously increase its financial self-sufficiency.

Registration for this event is limited and the fee is $99 per person. Twenty (20) scholarships for this seminar are available at $49 per person for organizations with budgets under $500,000. To apply, please send a written request to the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, 50 S. Main Street, Akron, Ohio 44308. Include a copy of your organization's current year's budget.

For more information call the Center for Nonprofit Excellence at 330.762.9670 or visit the website, www.cfnpe.org for more information or to register on-line. The event is co-sponsored by Bober, Markey, Fedorovich & Company.

Did you know ...

2004 is the year you're going to work smarter ... including typing AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE! So ...

PC TIP #18:
Date Magic!

  • In data-based program such as spreadsheets, databases, and financial software, stop typing 2004 after the date! Imagine all the time you'll save by typing 1/1 instead of 1/1/2004!! Of course, if 2004 isn't the year you want, be sure to add an abbreviated year at the end: 1/1/3 for January 1, 2003.
  • Learn the formulas for today's date so that you always have the current date:
    •  Excel: =today()
    •  Access=Date()
  • In Word, start typing the date. When a pop-up box gives you the full date, just enter and everything will fill in for you. For example, type January 5 and [January 5, 2004] will appear in a help box. Push the Enter key and that full date will be typed in for you.
  • To always have the current date in Word, go to Insert/Date and Time. Select the third version in the list and click on [Update Automatically].
