MONEY SMART WEEK IS A PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN DESIGNED TO HELP CONSUMERS BETTER MANAGE THEIR PERSONAL FINANCES

SATURDAY, APRIL 21ST

FINANCIAL LITERACY
The Summit County Office of Consumer Affairs will discuss how to improve your credit score, lower  your bills, set up a monthly budget, apply for PIPP and HEAP, avoid scams, and much more.

12:15PM – 12:45PM
FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT
The Akron Financial Empowerment Center will explain FREE one-on-one financial coaching services focused on credit score improvement, debt reduction, asset building, and banking access.

11:00AM – 1:00PM
SHRED IT!
Use this free on-site paper shredding event to purge financial clutter and other documents and help deter identity theft. Limit: 10 copy paper size boxes or 10 kitchen size trash bags.

1:00PM – 2:00PM
HELPFUL ASSISTANCE
East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation will discuss possible assistance available for housing, appliances, energy services, and even some free things.

SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS
The Social Security Administration will answer the following questions: What is the quickest way to file benefits? Can you work and still receive benefits? Do you have to file for Medicare? What age can you file?

PROTECT YOURSELF ONLINE
AARP will discuss their Fraud Watch Network. Discover what you should never do on public WiFi, how and when to get a security freeze on your credit file and other tips for protecting yourself in the cyber world.
